Born and raised in South Africa, Bruce started music at an early age and began formal training on drums with the best the country had to offer. He was the drummer at a big church, and was playing in the band with top studio musicians, in front of a congregation of 6 thousand by age 15. He quickly realized a career from music and signed his first record deal at age 17. The band was 'Abhorrence' in which he played bass guitar and fronted the band on vocals. The band had good success nationally as well as in select European countries. However, he quickly learned the lessons of the industry and moved on to other projects. Bruce attended music school where he studied guitar, piano and harmony. At age he 18 moved to London where he attended the full time music program at 'Drumtech', a division of Thames Valley University. Bruce and partner Ard Matthews (Just Jinjer) fed themselves playing in the streets of London and Paris while in Drum school. After 3 years in Europe it was time to head back to South Africa where he had success in the same 2 piece band 'Cat Chambers' with Ard. That gig lasted about a year in SA, but Bruce was itching to try his hand in the American market. San Francisco was 1st where for 5 years he played as a hired gun for countless artists in the studio and on the road. His success was in part thanks to close friend Steve Bowman of the Counting Crows, playing as his sub when he wasn't available. Bruce performed and recorded with a wide array of artists in genre's from jazz to rock and on record labels from Dreamworks to Sony to BMG, as well as many indy labels. Los angeles was next and shortly after arriving he landed the gig for Rock band 'Lustra'. After extensive touring and living in the studio, Bruce co-wrote and recorded hit song 'Scotty Doesn't know' at his studio in Hollywood. It became an international hit, and the theme song for Dreamworks film 'Eurotrip'. In 2005 'Scotty Doesn't Know' was one of the top downloaded songs of the year. Around that same time Bruce won the Independent music and film award for the song 'Motion Picture' which he produced and wrote for San Francisco band 'Karmacoda'. Throughout his career in Los Angeles from 2001 till currently, Bruce worked with many of the industries top Producers, including: Dave Schiffman - Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Nine Inch Nails, Silvia Massy - Tool, and Johnny Cash, Joe Barressi - Queens of the Stone Age and Bad Religion. Bruce soaked up every bit of knowledge he could and developed his skills as a Producer. Reality Tv's composer 'Tim Riley' hired Bruce on Percussion and his playing can be heard on everything from 'The Bachelor' to 'Joe Millionaire'. Being a Producer was a natural progression for him and over the past 8 years has worked hard with the local talent in LA in his hollywood recording studio. In 2006 Bruce's Nirvana Tribute band, 'Penny Royal' won the Rock City Music Award, and in 2008 he won the LA Music Award. In 2009 Bruce hooked up with Television Writer/Director Josh Faure-Brac and he Wrote/Produced and performed on the theme song for the now popular TV show ' Super News'. All the while playing drums with everyone he could get his hands on. After 16 years away from home grinding away abroad, Bruce couldn't curb his homesickness, and is now living back in South Africa and looking to contribute to the local music scene.
